What Was The Brief?
To design an orthodontic practice that moves beyond convention, one that elevates the brand while redefining what patients expect from the experience of care.
The goal was not simply to create a modern aesthetic, but to develop an environment that feels distinctive, memorable, and aligned with the level of service being delivered.
What Space Were We Working With?
Located within the Village of Cross Keys, this North Baltimore enclave offers a rare blend of quiet sophistication and curated retail. Tucked just off Falls Road, the setting feels like a hidden oasis—an upscale, garden-style destination known for boutique shopping, dining, and a refined, lifestyle-driven community.
The space itself presented a strong architectural foundation, with a pitched, exposed wood ceiling, structural beams, and expansive windows that bring in an abundance of natural light. Rather than seeing these elements as constraints, we approached them as opportunities—allowing the architecture and environment to inform a design that feels both grounded and uplifting.
Our Design Ideas
From the outset, it was clear this project called for more than a visually updated clinic. Dr. Gallagher was seeking to shift the patient experience—creating a space that feels considered, welcoming, and emotionally engaging from the moment of arrival.
Our approach centered on balance: pairing refined, traditional architectural elements—such as wall moldings and statement lighting—with the modern edge of the existing structure. This layered contrast creates a sense of depth and permanence, while still feeling fresh and relevant.
Through the intentional use of color, texture, and material, we introduced moments of softness, contrast, and subtle luminosity. The reception area, in particular, was designed to create an immediate sense of arrival—a space that feels elevated yet inviting, with carefully curated details that bring energy and personality without overwhelming the experience.
The result is a space that resonates across multiple levels. It feels polished yet approachable, expressive yet grounded—supporting both the clinical function of the practice and the emotional experience of those within it. This is where design begins to move beyond appearance and into impact.
