Old-world charm in a modern world has always been alluring. Normally the two concepts shy away from one another, but the perfect union can be found at the exclusive Cowshed Spa in Soho House Chicago. On a beautiful July morning just before the 4th, Valerie and I hopped in the car for a quick trip downtown. We would discover it was as much for business as it was for pampering and relaxation. When we arrived we didn’t know what to expect, but we knew due to location it would be a one-of-a-kind luxury experience.

Once outside, we were immediately enamored with the architecture of The Allis Chicago. Purchased by Soho House in 2012, this historic 107-year-old building is now a 40-room hotel and exclusive members club for creatives. It carries the pulse of Chicago in the modern world and from its glory day. What makes the structure so profound is the fact that it features (most of) its original brick, columns and exterior lettering. Such a great prelude for what was to come at Cowshed Spa.

Cowshed Spa begins your luxury spa journey with a drink of your choice. Although it was mimosa Wednesday, we opted for water. We would be heading back to the office after our midday excursion. The spa’s staff were so warm and welcoming. Even the glamorous chandeliers had a soothing vibe to them. Laid-back and friendly, the technicians were able to answer any and every inquiry we had.

They guided us around the corner to the waiting bench to choose our nail polish colors – ‘Cheeky Nails’ for their playful names, Cowshed’s signature nail polish collection is made from all natural ingredients – just like their own products. Cowshed carries skin, body and hair products with playful names to suit their brand style. Unique and vintage, this space features incredible woodwork, rustic in feel but undoubtedly timeless. Cowshed is a spa that allows an upscale experience in a hospitable setting.

Valerie and I complete our relaxation moment with a mini tour from the wonderful staff at Cowshed. We were able to experience their charming Neville barber area, cozy change rooms featuring rejuvenating showers and we took note of 5 large treatment rooms. Though they were booked at the time, we heard nothing but great things from beauty consumers living this luxury moment with us. Cowshed Spa exudes the perfect balance of masculine and feminine energy while maintaining their farmhouse chic and stylish details. There is an unexpected elegance found in this well-designed, ambient space.

There is good reason this rich, cozy, British inspired spa made the Forbes list for best luxury spas in Chicago. It features rustic-chic finishes and gorgeous decor. While there is an unmistakable undertone for the next generation at Soho House, Cowshed manages to keep old-fashioned charm alive.
